Welcome Volunteers!
DETOUR is seeking volunteers for our youth development programs. These positions include tutors, mentors, and speakers. In addition to our youth development programs, DETOUR hosts two events each year, the FANCY Awards Luncheon and the FANCY Teen Girls Expo. These events are the perfect chance for you to give back to your community and help us uplift, motivate, and inspire young girls in San Diego County.

Tutors

Our FANCY Tutoring Program seeks enthusiastic tutors in all subject areas for middle and high school age girls. Each week, tutors will work with girls one-on-one, along with the occasional group work. Our goal is to provide the resources for these girls to reach their full academic potential. Leadership Academy Mentors

We are seeking mentors who are passionate about inspiring girls to become personally, academically, and professionally successful. Mentors will undergo training and meet with mentees once a month, while maintaining weekly check-ins. Help us make a difference in these young girls lives and equip them with the tools they need to overcome challenges! Apply by completing the application below to begin this journey!

Speakers & Company Tours

Sign up to be a speaker for our school clubs, leadership academy, or mentorship program. In addition, if you have an opportunity for us to tour your company to receive a hand-on practical experience of what it is like to work in your industry – this activity is for you!

We are looking for individuals who share our mission of uplifting, motivating, and inspiring young girls of color. Topics ranging from self-esteem and empowerment, health and wellness, and career readiness are accepted.

FANCY In STEAM Initiative

If you have a STEAM project, this is your opportunity to showcase it through a demonstration! This initiative objective is to increase the amount of girls of color studying and working in STEAM career fields. Our goal is to cultivate a diverse talent pipeline in STEAM inclusive of girls of color in Southeast San Diego.

If you want to get involved with FANCY, we encourage you to volunteer for our events! The FANCY Teen Girls Expo caters to over 200 teen girls between the ages of 11-17 throughout San Diego County. Volunteers can choose from a variety of roles to help us create a successful day of empowerment for the young girls in our community.
